Psychiatry is the branch of medicine specialising in diagnosis and management of mental health disorders. Psychiatrists are qualified medical practitioners who have trained in assessment and treatment of psychological conditions, becoming Fellows of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. Management may involve a combination of counselling, psychotherapy, and medication, often in combination with psychologists and other clinicians. Conditions frequently managed include anxiety disorders, mood disorders such as depression and bipolar disorder, substance use disorders, and adjustment disorders where there has been a severe emotional reaction to stress, such as with pain, injury, work or relationship problems.
